Review: Submissions Round-Up pt 18

So many subs of late....far too many to mention them all unfortunately but in an attempt to cover as many as possible here is another round-up of those that tickled my pickle:

Addicted Label

I was contacted by Anton from the Russian label Addicted. On perusal of their Bandcamp page I was in a real quandary of which ones I would cover so I decided that I would feature them all! Over the past couple of months I have delved into the veritable goldmine of the label's catalogue and pretty much enjoyed every release; it runs the gamut from experimental electronica to crushing, synth-driven doom via noise rock, prog and psychedelia. Standout releases for me include 'Nature' by Disen Gage....spacey electronica with a razor sharp edge and 'Джєбарс' by Soom which is an outstanding album ful l of psychedelic soundscapes and some heavy as fuck doom....it's loud, noisy and huge! There are also a couple of storming comps from the Moscow Psych fests of 2014 and 2015 featuring such names as Polska Radio One, Vespero and Atomic Simao. I really would urge you all to check out the goodies on display.

EPs 1/2 - Cosmonaut and Creature

This tape release was actually from last year and the physical tapes have actually sold out(I tghink I may have got the last...soz!) but this is available as a download via the Liquid Library Bandcamp page here. Cosmonaut and Creature play some brilliant "Sci-Fi Disco-Rock! Spacepunk! Martian Hardcore!".....if Man..Or Astroman? had spent more time listening to Devo and Dead Kennedys than Dick Dale this is what they would sound like. This is a rollicking listen..hard and heavy and spaced out but all with a knowing grin on its face..and these dudes are from Bristol. The download is 'Name Your Price' but you all know what to do eh? While you are there, check out the other tapes... Liquid Library always release some top quality music and if tapes are your thing then bookmark the page (there is a brilliant COIMS tape there at the mo!)

Jonny Weathers - Sonic Assault With Paul Cook

Jonny Weathers has appeared in these pages before and so it's a pleasure to welcome him back, this time accompanied by some punk rock royalty..yes, Paul Cook is that Paul Cook! 'Sonic Assault' is a 4 track EP with Jonny's trademark guitar..some down and dirty garage rock all backed with Cook's hard hitting drumming. I said in the previous review that Weather's guitar is brilliant and I would reiterate that here...he really is a talented dude and I'm not quite sure why he isn't better known. 'Sonic Assault' is available as a download (only £3.99) from his Bandcamp page here.

Chickn - Wowsers!

Chickn are a Greek psychedelic band who brilliantly channel the spirit of the sixties in their music. It sounds distinctly English, which is weird, but it has that same jaunty, fun aspect to it that typified a lot of the late sixties UK psych. From start to finish 'Wowsers!' is a damn fine listen.....there are no heavy, fuzzy solos or doom laden passages here, just well crafted songs with intelligent lyrics and plenty of vocal and musical hooks. It has been given a release by Inner Ear Records and is available as vinyl and download from the label's Bandcamp page here. A damn fine album!
