Review: The Cult Of Dom Keller - The Second Bardo

My first review on the site, and what a corker!! The Cult Of Dom Keller (TCODK) are one of my fave bands at the mo.

These sonic terrorists formed in Nottingham in  2008 and since then have a released a handful of EPs and 2 long players of which this is the second. Released on Cardinal Fuzz records (a fine, fine label!) it is a spankingly, bowel-looseningly awesome slab of fuzz-drenched, spacey and HEAVY psych rock.

I would go into a track-by-track disection of the LP but that would being doing it a diservice - it is a 'thing'...it unfolds like some serpentine creature of the night. There is fuzz....lots and lots of fuzz, some tracks fizz along and some have a slow, unstoppable juggernaut feel. There is some ethnic, back-masked sounds for that 'authentic' psyche feel (on Into the Sky Volcano/Beyond Burning Skies - easily the trippiest track here).

The best way to sum up the LP is to touch upon it's title - The Second Bardo. ‘Bardo’ is a Buddhist term meaning a 'dream state' and after the first listen (there have been many, many more!), via headphones in the dark, it felt like a dream state. Words cannot express how good this LP is ....buy it, enjoy it, live it.
